WHAT IS MIND SHAFT?

Mind Shaft is a concept of retraining the brain.  It helps to strengthen the intellectual mind which enables a person to think straight and avoid negative barriers.   In a world where mental health is becoming ever increasing, this training will aid individuals to continue with positive changes.

Today’s fast-paced world has taken its toll on our minds and our bodies. 

 

The Mind Shaft Course is designed to help your workforce regain control of their lives.  Stress, mental health and anxiety is extremely damaging to an individual’s well-being, which is why Mind Shaft is created to help recognise and remove the negative and damaging barriers and help a person regain that control, power and optimism.  Strengthening and stimulating this part of the intellectual brain helps bypass fear and negative thinking.

This is not a magic formula. There are people who cannot be coached as their minds are very rigid and reluctant to explore new suggestions.  However, there are many who find this intriguing and are able to open up and be honest in the group discussions that take place. Every opinion matters as does exploring that opinion. Mind Shaft is an introduction to change.  It gives the individual the chance to analyse and understand and gives them the tools to start this new journey.

Life coaching does not deal with the past, but the present and the future.  With life coaching, your journey starts today and any trauma or problems with the past do not count.  It is about taking responsibility for yourself, your actions and your future.

We all want a strong, positive workforce.  Now they can take responsibility for it.

Any individual who takes part on a corporate course will have follow up support from myself via email and ongoing blog. 
This is a journey, and sometimes people lose their way and need help to get back on track.

Catherine Smith, Founder of Mind Shaft

My career began as I trained to be a journalist, until being bitten by the travel bug and threw my books out for a life on the road.  I worked in Italy, in both Rome and Verona before returning to a circuit around the UK whilst jotting down my adventures to write “a great story” one day.  I then spent the next seven years as an officer in the merchant navy, cruising the world and exploring the many challenges that went with it.

After marrying, I left sea and retrained as a teacher, working in Special Education Needs at a secondary school in Plymouth.  Four years later, we moved away as a family and I spent the next few years working in adult mental health and finally returning to a further education college in Lincolnshire and trained as a life coach and also in Health and Social Care.  Training as a life coach and cognitive therapy was a new concept in counselling which I used to help students suffering from mental health issues.

Those ‘great stories’ were published as The Officer’s Mess trilogy, Diary of an Angel and Little Italy.  My love of the outdoors also helped me work as a regional outdoor writer where I wrote regional books as part of a series of national books.

I love to travel and explore and the outdoors, music, writing and rugby.  I have done several charity treks, including Peru, the Grand Canyon, Australia’s Blue Mountains and the three peaks.  I also organise junior teambuilding rugby tours for my local club.

I always thought I would write for a living.  Fate had a hand in changing that which led to a completely different future for me.  I was led by intuition and learnt to trust it. Life, after all, is for living.

Mind Shaft is brain retraining to strengthen the left pre-frontal cortex, an area that needs to get exercised and strengthened. This area is the ‘happy’ part of our brain.

By using it more and more, we can train our brain to bypass depression responses, fear and anxiety in the body and move away from the emotional mind. Instead we start using the intellectual mind more.

It takes commitment every single day, but eventually we can create new neuro pathways. That’s when ‘The Magic’ happens.

Thinking ‘straight’ and avoiding negative barriers and emotions means you become a naturally happy person and that in turn begins to bring more happiness your way.
